A few weeks ago students from year 5 & 6 attended a Fun with Maths session being held at Gin Gin State High School. The students were required to unlock codes by solving mathematical problems. Working across a variety of work stations and following clues with the overall goal of returning as many dinosaurs from individual work stations to the front of the hall before the volcano erupted.
The program aimed to assist students in developing mathematical ability by: -
- choosing the correct strategy when faced with a problem
- improving their creativity
- changing their attitude into a positive one towards maths.
Students were also provided with an opportunity to interact with junior high school students in the year 7 area, and purchase from the High School tuckshop, assisting in their transition to High School next year.
